Grow any dung loving mushrooms at home with this mushroom grow kit!

This mushroom kit includes 5lbs of pre-pasteurized mushroom substrate in a 0.5 micron grow bag and 1lb of sterilized sorghum grain in a 0.2 injector port spawn bag. Our mushroom substrate formula has been altered and perfected over the past 17 years to provide you with the perfect vessel for your mycelium, allowing you to get the best yield from your chosen culture. We have listed instructions below and are here to answer any questions you might have. (Anyone who reaches out with a question about mushroom cultivation gets a coupon code for 10% off!)

Why pasteurize mushroom substrate instead of sterilizing it?
Pasteurizing it kills unwanted germs, while beneficial microorganisms, mainly bacteria, stay alive, inhabit the substrate and help guarding it against more aggressive microorganisms. This way the substrate is more resistant to contamination and can be inoculated with spawn without taking strict sterile precautions. Some people go so far as to sterilize their substrate, killing all of the microorganisms in it. However, this also kills the beneficial bacteria and microbes, making it more prone to contaminations. Therefore, you would have to inoculate the bulk substrate in sterile conditions, for example under a flow hood or in a glove box and it would have to stay sterile until fully colonized. Since this is not very practical for large amounts of substrates, pasteurizing is usually the better option.

These are the steps of Mushroom Cultivation:

1) Strain Selection: Choose a strain of mushrooms you want to grow and obtain either a spore print or a culture of that species.
2) Grain Inoculation: Inoculate your grain (sorghum) with your chosen culture.
3) Mixing of Spawn into Substrate: Once your spawn is fully colonized, mix it with your pasteurized bulk substrate.
4) Fruiting: Our substrate comes in a grow bag, so after mixing in the spawn, you can let your mushrooms grow right in the bag! Alternatively, you can move your colonized medium into a fruiting chamber which contains proper lighting, humidity and fresh air.
5) Harvesting: Wait for mushrooms to mature. The correct harvesting technique depends on the type of mushroom you are growing.
